technology for the future
no teacher left behind?:
An article in Missoula, Montana's Missoulian newspaper claims that it's not students who are needing to be convinced to use new technology in the classrooms - it's the teachers! In Wave of the future: Hellgate Elementary most tech-heavy district in Missoula Principal Candy Johnson explains, "The biggest learning curve has been with the teachers." (Kelly, 2010) While students are eager to pick up their hand-held remotes and signal their answers electronically, some teachers have found themselves lacking when it comes to technology know-how. Encouraging Teacher Technology Use by Linda Starr (2012) indicates that by providing incentives to teachers, they are more apt to adopt technology into their classrooms. Some schools provide email addresses to all staff, post important information online, and create folders on school servers for both teachers and students to access and save information. In addition..."each teacher also maintains a technology portfolio and uses it to organize their Web sites, show evidence of technology activities in the classroom, store training handouts, and so on." (Star, 2012) Many school districts have adopted these practices to ensure technology is being used in the classroom. |
