“I think there is a world market for maybe five computers”-Thomas Watson, Chairman of IBM, 1943
The impact that technology has had on the manner in which we conduct our lives has been enormous. From how we learn, communicate, shop, watch news and entertainment and even how we elect our presidents. Not only was President Obama our first African American president, his was also the first presidental campaign that used the Internet as a campaign tool. President Obama understood that the, "key benefit of the Internet in today's world is its ability to bring communities together in a manner that spans both virtual and physical spaces" (Lipton, pg. 695).
“Why is it that drug addicts and computer aficionados are both called users?”
– Astronomer and author, Clifford Stoll
Rap singer Eminem has reached a milestone as the most popular musician on Facebook with 60 million Facebook fans beating out Lady Gaga who has 53 million and Rihanna with 59 million (Bell, pg.1). As of 2011, Britney Spears became the sixth person to hit 10 million followers on Twitter. This makes me wonder if what Andrew Keen stated, “History has proven that the crowd is not often very wise” (Kakutani, pg. 1). He might have a point.

-Stephen Hawking
